How we generate impact
- Our team of promotoras provided 126 outreach sessions from February to June at various community events and venues.
- We attended health fairs, tabled during soccer tournaments, tabled at churches, at the Mexican and other Central American Consulates, and participated in hometown association meetings, among others.
- Thanks to our intensive outreach and education campaign, we were able to reach 14,629 people.
- During our outreach sessions, we distributed information and engaged in one-on-one conversations with hundreds of families interested in learning more about COVID-19 and getting vaccinated. We were able to assist 96 individuals with their vaccination process.

Partnership with Los Angeles County Health Department
The «Reducing Disparities in Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccination Program» by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health aims to reduce disparities in vaccination rates by focusing on communities that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic. The program utilizes a community-based approach to promote vaccine education.

Nerida Vargas
Originally from the state of Nayarit, arrived in California at the age of 14 to continue her studies. She currently serves as Treasurer of FENINE USA, Director of the Uniendo Familias Nayaritas Program, Secretary, and Founding Member of the Mujeres Extraordinarias Foundation in California. Her affiliations extend to prominent Mexican migrant organizations.
Nathaly Rivero
Originally from Bolivia, has been residing in the United States for over 15 years. She has a strong academic background, work experience, certifications, and a deep passion for business and the ability to inspire others. Nathaly is a valued member of the Mujeres Extraordinarias Foundation, contributing her expertise to the organization’s initiatives.


Oscar Navarro
Born in Colombia and a resident of the United States since childhood, stands out as a proactive event organizer and planner. His focus on empowering Hispanic/Latino students has been reflected in his involvement with Biola’s Ethnic Outreach Team. Oscar’s contributions go beyond participation, as he actively engages in promoting higher education opportunities among diverse communities.
María del Refugio González
She’s a passionate cosmetologist with a strong commitment to volunteering and community service. Over the past four decades, I have been actively involved as a volunteer in catechesis, working with people of diverse ages. In addition to my role in catechesis, I also take on the responsibility of being a health promoter, focusing on important topics such as diabetes and nutrition.


Juanita Talavera
Juanita Talavera has dedicated a significant part of her life to defending human rights and being a voice for migrants. Her commitment to this cause transcends borders and aims to contribute to a fairer and more compassionate world for all. Juanita is originally from the state of Michoacán. One of her most rewarding tasks has been facilitating the reunification of families separated due to migration, allowing parents, children, and siblings to see each other again. She also dedicates herself to assisting in the repatriation of the remains of fellow migrants who wish to return to Mexico.
Edmundo Lara
Has served as the Director of Youth Programs and social media at the Federación Chihuahua Organization in Los Angeles. His participation in a wide range of projects showcases his versatility and adaptability. Edmundo’s dedication to meaningful initiatives has left a lasting impact on the community he serves.


Adaly Ugalde
Adaly Ugalde, originally from Guatemala, has seamlessly integrated into the United States community over the past three decades. Her notable volunteer efforts in Pico Unión and her bilingual field coordination and health promotion skills highlight her dedication to community well-being. Adaly’s pivotal role in disseminating vital COVID-19 resources showcases her commitment to public education and well-being.
Josefina Herrera
Daughter of Chihuahuan parents and born in the city of El Paso, Texas, USA, Josefina Herrera is a prominent business leader and advocate for migrant rights. Currently, she holds the position of CEO at the company ATLAS (Specialists, Exports and Logistics) and serves as the President of the Chihuahua Federation Organization. Additionally, she plays a pivotal role as a Civil Minister in matters related to marriages and provides guidance on identity and official documents. Also as Delegate of the United Nations Global Migration Development, Integration, Regulation, Returns and Refugees (UN GFDM).


Lucero Amador
Originally from Guanajuato, resides in Los Angeles, California, and is a dedicated journalist committed to her work and the migrant community. Lucero has adeptly navigated changes and challenges throughout her career, exemplifying perseverance, and dedication in journalism. She is also an integral part of the Mujeres Extraordinarias Foundation.

About us
The commitment of Mujeres Extraordinarias Foundation is to bring together and organize women leaders from different parts of Mexico, as well as descendants of Mexicans and other Latin American countries. The foundation aims to empower women by promoting education, awareness, reflection, and action while encouraging the development of support networks and inter-institutional coordination. Through these efforts, the foundation hopes to contribute to the advancement of women and their communities.
